For the past 10 years, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has supported better health and healthcare for Canadians. As the Government of Canada’s health research investment agency, CIHR enables the creation of evidence-based knowledge and its transformation into improved treatments, prevention and diagnoses, new products and services, and a stronger, patient-oriented healthcare system. Composed of 13 internationally-recognized institutes, CIHR supports more than 13,000 health researchers and trainees across Canada.

International Collaborative Research Strategy for Alzheimer’s Disease

The International Collaborative Research Strategy for Alzheimer's Disease (ICRSAD) is CIHR's response to a growing Canadian and international health care crisis, joining other nations that have launched national strategies.  CIHR’s objective is to develop a global research network and to shape a research funding program with a major focus on disease prevention and innovative therapeutic strategies. ICRSAD will encourage scientific collaborations between researchers in Canada and internationally to accelerate research efforts.  To support these efforts, ICRSAD will work with research organizations around the world with the objective to establish joint priorities and funding partnerships.  The ultimate goal is to address this growing national and international problem through a strategic and collaborative global effort.

Specific Goals of ICRSAD

  •  identify common priorities for research on AD and related dementias.
  • encourage scientific collaborations between researchers in Canada and internationally to accelerate research efforts.
  • establish funding partnerships with research organizations around the world.
  • identify methodologies, technologies and/or platforms the sharing of which would provide the greatest added value to research in this field.
